Mexico Lady Bulldogs Testing Themselves Against the Best in the State Part 1

After watching their teammates in the JV Wonder Woman, it was the veterans on the Lady Bulldog roster’s turn at a shot at the coveted Wonder Woman Belts. Every single bracket in this tournament was loaded with returning state qualifiers, medalists, Fargo Qualifiers, State medalists from other states, returning podium finishers from last year’s Wonder Woman Tournament, etc. Some regard this tournament just as tough, if not tougher than their respective State Tournament brackets.

Highlights:

After drawing a first-round bye, Abigail Bowen drew the #1 Ranked girl in Class 2 for her first actual match, which did not go her way. However, she was able to reset and found ways to get her hand raised while facing elimination for the rest of the day. She started by pinning her opponent from Festus late in the 3rd period. Her 3rd match of the day was against a Class 2 returning state qualifier from Marquette.

Both wrestlers would have several opportunities during the first period of wrestling, but neither wrestler could capitalize on the opportunities. At the start of the second period, Marquette chose to go down to start the period. Bowen was tough on top and kept the pressure on her opponent and would eventually turn her opponent to her back to secure the pin with 17 seconds left in the period to advance in the bracket.

Bowen’s next match started similarly with no scoring in the first period of wrestling. She would choose neutral to start the 2nd period and it didn’t take long for the scoring to start for both wrestlers…
