2009 Wrestling “Legends” Inductees Announced
The fifth class to be inducted in the UCM Wrestling “Hall of Legends” will include: All Americans and multiple MIAA Champions Duane Fritchie; Jim Blackmon; and Bob Burrows; former Mule wrestler and
head Coach, high school coaching legend Mike Hagerty; long time supporter, former University of Central Missouri President Dr. Ed Elliott; and the 1986 Mules Team which at that time had the third
highest national finish in Mules history.
In an effort to continue to keep our Alumni involved we are starting something new this year by inviting 10 year teams to this event as a part of their reunions. Consequently, we are inviting the Mule Wrestling
Teams from 1969; 1979, 1989; and 1999 to attend and be recognized as our special guests. Please let us know if you can attend!
All UCM Wrestling Alumni and friends of the program are encouraged to attend this year’s reception and induction ceremony to be held on Friday evening, October 9th, 2009 at White Rose Pavilion, 107 Ming
Street in Warrensburg. We have outgrown the side room at Heroes Restaurant and are moving to another facility run by the same people who operate Heroes. The reception will start at 7:00 P.M., with the
induction ceremony to start at approximately 8:00 P.M.
We once again had a great turnout last year with many former inductees also in attendance. All-Americans Randy Hughell, Jim Haub, Greg Anderson; multiple team record holder Bill Graham; one of the original Mule wrestlers and college coaching legend Ron Mirikitani; contributors, supporters, and former CMSU professors Drs. Ginger and James Young; and several members of the 1990 team were inducted. Representing the team from 1990 were Matt Cox; Terry Dorman; Bryan Elam; John Moddrell; Pat Robbins; Robert Lilly and Coaches Mike Snelling and Mike Hagerty. (Please forgive me if I missed mentioning anyone!)
We hope that as many people as possible will be able to attend this year. To help with our records, please help us by e-mailing your updated address, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses to Robin Ersland or Dorothy Mayabb. Also, please forward this information to anyone else that you think might be interested. See you on the 9th!

It will be a great opportunity to meet current members of the team and their parents to socialize and eat prior to the start of the football game. Hope to see you there!
Attention All Members of the 1985-1986 Mules Wrestling Team!
As noted above, we will be inducting your team into the UCM Wrestling “Hall of Legends”. We would like to honor as many members of this team as possible and would like to extend an invitation for you and your family to attend.
Please let us know if you can attend and please spread the word to your teammates in case we miss anyone. Help us by e-mailing or phoning with your updated address, home phone number, and addresses or phone numbers of any of your teammates that you are still in touch with. The two major areas that we are asking for your help are the Roger Denker Scholarship fund and the “UCM Wrestling Practice Facility” fund.
We have the smallest scholarship level of any athletic program at UCM, your donations to the Denker Scholarship fund is starting to turn that problem around.
Plans for a new wrestling practice facility are continuing to be formulated. We are temporarily housed in the Police Institute until our new facility is completed. There will be no return to Garrison as the entire building is being renovated. The current plan is for us to build a new wrestling room on the west side of the Multi. Those plans do not include provisions for a locker room, coach’s offices, or storage space. When we have a final projection of costs we will be asking for your financial help to build the kind of quality wrestling facility that is needed to continue to recruit outstanding student/athletes.
Contact the UCM Foundation today at (660) 543-4157 to make your donation. Or, contact Coach Ersland at (660) 543-8511 with any questions you might have.
